Stats

After the interim crit, Mat said I really need to get my words sorted but I still had no idea what to write! I found this website with some useful statistics on it http://www.statisticbrain.com/child-abuse-statistics/  and after alotttttt of thought I decided upon:
Most people have a safe place. A place they call home.
For some children their "home" is the last place they want to be.
An estimated 681,000 children are victims of abuse and neglect every year.
80.9% of cases by their own parents.
Your donations can help keep a child safe.
You can make a difference. website and phone number
I feel this works well it started off making you feel sorry for the child, then it hits you with two hard facts making you realise just how often this happens. They it tells you you can help. I think using the word 'you' personalises it like the advert is talking to you as a specific person.

Interim crit

So my animation wasn't completely finished for the interim crit but it wasn't too far off. I think it helped a lot getting other peoples opinions. some of the feedback I got was:
Take out the bit with the dad holding the kids collar because it made David laugh and it's not necessary.
Maybe change the order a bit and work on the words.
The flickeriness of the image is fine and it looks fine in black and white.
Maybe change the music for some words in the background of someone saying horrible things.
Try and edit the camera shake

I have taken these things on board and have done everything except the sound. I'm not really certain how to go about this and as we don't have any more sessions with Mat I don't think I'll be able to do it but I might give it a go.
I also tried the camera shake thing which I will explain about on another post.

Easter

So over Easter I received my video for me to rotoscope. It wasn't as good quality as I was expecting as it had a fair amount of camera wobble but hopefully its not too noticable. I then imported each little clip into photoshop and began the rotoscoping process. I enjoyed this to start with but after animating about 10 seconds I was beginning to loose hope with it. It takes so long! I was working at about 4 hours work for 1 second of animation! so to animate 2 seconds a day which was my target I had to be working 8 hour days. This isn't too bad it's just finding the motivation to work that long when your supposed to be on holiday and it's lovely weather outside!
Anyway, I cracked on with it and I got at least half done by the time Easter was over. I was ready for it to just be finished by then.
I do like the idea of rotoscoping and the effect it gives however...boy does it take a long time to do! Maybe I will only use this method for shorter peices next time! Or less frames per second!
Another issue I had was that my tablet was not working so well with my laptop making the lines not as smooth and slowing down my computer meaning I couldn't play through my timeline like you normally would.

Rotoscoping

Here's another video I found on youtube.  I think this will be more like the style of my animation as it is more simplified. I like the way they have used some yellow for the lemons and the sun but that is the only colour used. It draws attention to it and also makes it look vibrant and interesting. I would love to put a bit of colour in like this too but I don't feel I will have time. Also I don't think it will go with my storyline as colour often means happiness and black and white is the opposite. I also realised that on this video the background doesn't flicker at all so I think it might be on a separate layer. I wish I had thought of that! but I've already started now.
